Haleiwa Trench Dive

Haleiwa Trench

Beginner – Advanced

Haleiwa Trench was created by the military to hide submarines.  They blasted a narrow slot out of the lava rock just wide enough to pull a sub into.  This make for a very interesting dive site.  You can walk 80% of the way to it (in the water.)  When the water level goes above waste deep, we put our fins on, swim about 25 yards, then in about 15 feet of water is a wall that drops to 85-90 feet.  The blasting created numerous holes, great places for huge turtles to take a nap.  You are also likely to see lobsters, cowrey shells, and bigeyes.  I generally dive this spot at night so I don’t have many good photos from this site.
